Hats Off To the Grad!!!

Hard to believe Easter is right around the corner and before you know it, graduation season will be in full swing!  Wow!  I have a few money saving ideas that are sure to add the right personal touch and will also save you both time and energy as well....

Graduation Accesories & Favors
Forget the extra expense of purchasing a box for the mounds and mounds of graduation cards.  Although baskets are easy and practical, making use of a gently used appliance or electronic box is a creative way to dispose of random boxes and can also be used to add some personalization by the grad.  For instance, I took an old "Xerox" copy box that was used for storing reams of paper, cut a slit in the lid, wrapped the bottom half in one school color and the lid in another.   I then photocopied pictures from my Senior year and made a collage of photos on the lid, added a few extra momentos and accessories and it was done.  However, my brother was a basketball athlete, and went the sport route, so don't feel as though it has to be all about the school colors and school spirit.  Be creative - the sky is the limit!

Candy Cup Caps
While wandering around on pinterest, I found these fun candy cup caps.  The link for the instructions and website is below the picture.

And last, but not least, the following pictures are also from pinterest, and are great models for how to decorate on the big day...

Using Old Books For Centerpieces
Although I do not personally own books that look like the ones below, around this time of year, libraries have mega book sales (and for super cheap!), so you are sure to find what you are looking for if you go that direction.  Also, used book stores and even Goodwill are also great places to try, so now would be the best time to start stocking up.  And if you don't have plans to keep them around after the party, simply sell them back to a used book store or donate them back to Goodwill or other charities.  There is nothing more frustrating after a big event then disposing of decorations that are not only taking up valuable space, but cost money as well (and sometimes a lot of money).  I am also quite curious how dictionaries, or even the left-over chapter books from english class would look.  Hmmm....;)  The website also had quite a few other ideas as well, so be sure to check them out, too!

Weclome!

I am just in the beginning stages of some ideas and passions I've had throughout my life and thought this would be the best time to put them into action!  I possess a four-year BA in English and am currently an MBA Marketing major and have over four years of event planning experience ranging from ministry to corporate to personal events.  In this scrap and save economy, the "DIY" approach is the only alternative, and since that is so overused [and boring ;], I decided to name it "Yours Truly - Events By You!"  My goal is to plan and collaborate with you, and plan events with your ideas, passions, plans, likes, etc.  I understand that many individuals have great ideas, but never think it's possible, and that's EXACTLY where I come in...give me your ideas and plans and I will make your dreams a reality...or at least try my very, very best to make your event how you imagined it!

So please stay tuned for more updates, ideas and the like.  If you have ideas, or need assistance with an event or events, please contact me.  Thankfully, technology can make anything possible these day [scary, but true], so leave me some comments or emails and I will do my best to meet your expectations.

Have a beautiful weekend, everyone!
