Tea Party Fun

Happy Friday - I'm a little behind on communication lately, but I am enjoying the weather and trying to find fun, creative ways to share with you all.

For some reason, the color yellow keeps popping up everywhere and although it's not normally a color I choose, I just couldn't resist, and I'm sure you'll see why...

Yellow, Blues and Greens Are the PERFECT combo for a summer event!

The yellow adds just the right amount of color!

Carrot, anyone?  Couldn't resist these cute bunnies!

And more bunnies!

So bright and cheerful - definitely can't go wrong with yellow in the summer!

Hope you all enjoyed my fun little shoot!  Any of your own ideas?  Please share!!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Bridesmaid Bliss

This past weekend, I had the priviledge of being in my brother's wedding.  The colors were mostly a variance of multiple shades of purples.  Although it was a ridiculously hot weekend (and this weekend it's absolutely freezing!!!), it was nice to actually be in a wedding and to see it from a completely different angle.  Any bridesmaid stories?  Feel free to share!  Thanks for reading and enjoy the new month - hard to believe we're already half-way through 2012!

My bouquet - still alive after almost a week!!

The Color Coral

When I saw this pin not too long ago, I was so motivated to use it somewhere.  Although there wasn't an event that I was planning any time soon, I of course pinned it for future use, but couldn't help randomly running into it everywhere - whether online or out an about.  So, I eventually had a vision for it with help from this.  Amazing!!!  Especially since I love dying frosting and batter these past few months...:)

Anyways, I decided to try out my own take of the color coral and I think they turned out pretty well.  What do you think??  Special thanks to Anna and Blue Paperie and of course, HGTV.

Seeing Red

I am absolutely loving this warm weather, although it is a tad warmer than May should be it just feels right to me.  As the weather started getting warmer a few weeks ago, I walked out to my little "garden" in the backyard and saw that my strawberry plants were in full bloom.  Thankfully the warm winter didn't kill them (God is just spoiling me with this weather...;), and honestly, I didn't even really think about them until yesterday when I noticed something red out of the corner of my eye.  So needless to say that my strawberries are out of control and I am really excited to actually do something with them this year.  Unfortunately, last year I only had a few and it was pretty disappointing, but this year, I may have to start selling them by the bushels just to put them to good use.

But before I get too far ahead of myself, I decided to check out my Pinterest for a few recipes that I saved for times like these.

So, when I get a few more cups, this is my first goal.

And since I am a HUGE fan of tea, why not finish it off with one of these??? ;)

Any other strawberry recipes???  Send them my way...:)

Buttermilk White Cake With Coconut

Happy Friday, everyone!  Life has been super busy and I am about a blog behind, so I figured I would take a break from the craziness and add a little something.  Here is a cake I made back in February - it was my first time making it and it was delicious!!!  I've had the recipe for a few years,  and surprisingly, I found the link online through BHG.

A word of caution, though, it is quite heavy once it's finished, but it's sooo good!!!  I decided to be a tad creative and dyed my frosting and the batter.  Next time, I think I will try the Wilton food gels - I heard they do a better job...;)  A a little suggestion, too, since I'm still learning how to frost - especially with thicker frostings, such as the buttercream - the coconut was perfect for covering up my flaws!!! :)

Have a fabulous weekend!!!!!!

Bridal Shower : Part 1

Hard to believe it's only April 2nd - feels like spring has been around for weeks.  The weather is absolutely beautiful and I am so thankful winter is far behind us - I am not a cold weather person in the least - and I absolutely hate the snow. :(  Anyways, with the welcoming of spring comes wedding season and this past week has been quite busy on my end with planning a wedding shower.  Here are a few personalized (and EASY) touches to add to your event.

If you enjoy making your own invitations, these are the perfect invites for adding your special touch... and the best part of all was finding them on clearance!  I have to admit, though, it did take me about an hour to get the formatting and fonts just right, but thankfully I copied off a few extra copies of the practice sheet that was included so I could make mistakes without wasting my originals.  When you're on a tight budget, it's best to keep practicing until you get it just right.  My advice: make a few demos, lay them aside for a few days, ask a few friends, co-workers, etc. about which ones they like and then make a decision.  Looking back, I think I would have done a few things differently, but the guests really liked these, so it all works out! :)

Although I couldn't find the exact ones on the website, here is the link for other fun invites.

And, here are a few pins on pinterest for other designs and formats...

And of course, a website for downloading fonts.  :)

When brainstorming for centerpiece ideas, and keeping my tight budget in mind, I simply used what I already had.  And when I mean "simply," I mean it was super, super simple.  As an avid Pinterest fan, I am always looking for new, fun, simple ideas, so I decided to combine quite a few creations into one.  After 52 re-pins later, I would say it was quite a success...;)  For trying this on your own, take any size champaign glass (they even have some at the dollar store!!!!), place plant jewels at the bottom, then fill with water and add your choice of food coloring.  Place the flower on top, and you got it!  Please be aware, however, that the plant jewels MUST be placed in first to keep from breaking not only the jewels, but the glass.  Also, if you chose anything else to be placed at the bottom, please note that if it's not heavy enough, it will float to the top.  And as always, when using food coloring, it's best to try out the different colors prior to the finished product so you know exactly what to add when it's time to create.  Sometimes finding the right color takes a while and it can be quite a headache taking everything out of the glass and placing it back in over and over again.  Don't be afraid to write down the "formula" for safe keepings until the big day - that's not cheating and it will save you sooo much time, headache and materials!!!  Also, the sky is the limit, add what you want and make it your own and when you do, let me know, I love seeing what you make!!!

And as always, for scheduling your next event, please contact me at contactyourstrulyevents@yahoo.com and be sure to stop by next Monday for Bridal Shower :  Part 2.  Happy Easter, everyone!
