Basketweave Cake

This past Thursday ended my second cake decorating class with Wilton.  Unfortunately, the third class isn't going to work very well with my schedule so I am going to have to postpone that one until the future.  However, here are pictures from my final cake {thankfully I only had to make one this time}!!!!    This was my first attempt at a basketweave cake design AND reverse shells - not to brag - but my teacher raved and raved at how well I caught on and achieved such a challenging assignment in such a short amount of time.  So see for yourself...;-)

Gum Paste Flowers

I started my second Wilton cake class last night and love this one even more than my last set of classes.  Thankfully there is only one cake to make and it's the very last class.  :-)  Last night I learned how to make gum paste button flowers.  Pretty easy but time consuming, but worth the effort for sure!

Cake Creations - Part II

My final Wilton cake class for Course 1 was this past week and here are pictures of my final cake.  As with everything in life, we must be teachable and ready to learn {something I have to consistently remind myself of as I take these classes}.  Although I really enjoy this experience, I am quickly finding that it can be just as frustrating and exhausting as it is fun and exciting.  Either way, in the end, you can always make it look somewhat presentable, I mean, it is cake and even if it's not perfect, you can always start over.  Not the end of the world...:)

As I write this blog, I can clearly see that more than ever {especially lately} God is really trying to break the perfectionist spirit over me.  For example, from the minute I took my cakes out of their pans I realized they were lumpy and somewhat crumbly...but I tried to stay positive.  Then, when I made my frosting too thin {which I knew deep down inside was in fact supposed to be a thicker consistency and I ignored it} and began "attempting" to cover my cake, I knew right away that it was not going to be the perfectly iced cake I had invisioned.  There were serious cake streaks.  Crumbs.  Lumps.  Ugh.  Buuttt...I sucked it up, took it to class and learned how to make roses and after a few hours, I made a serious diversion, tweeked a few things and now you can hardly tell that it was the WORST {and I mean WORST} cake that I have EVER made.  Always the way, right?  For next week, I am on to Course #2 - exciting!!

Almost a completely different cake, huh?

Roses up close - really fun!!!

Event Planning

Now that I actually have more time to devote to this blog and event planning, I've been taking some steps towards networking and have made some great connections!  One of course is the fabulous Lauren from Your Bridal Bestie.  So for all of you brides who are in the midst of planning your dream day or have just planned your wedding, please visit her site!

So in honor of her big day, I thought I would offer some advice on event planning.  Thankfully, I've gained quite a bit of experience in my younger days and during the past year it paid off tremendously in regards to my last position in the workforce.  Without delaying any longer, here is the first step to Yours Truly, the "PLANNING" stage (the second is "perfect" and the third of course is the "party" stage).  Since I am in the beginning of this entire process, anyone that needs advice/direction, please contact me (free of charge of course for the time being); however, if things really start picking up I may have to start charging, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there...:)

Feel free to either comment below, keep this format for your own personal use or even e-mail me to assist you.  I hope this helps or at least steers you in the right direction despite the overwhelming urge to tackle a million things at once, but remember, that's what I'm here for, too - distance does not matter at this point in the stage!!!!

From a personal perspective, please give credit where credit is due - remember to site your sources!  I need all the support I can get right now!!!  Thank you!!!

Tea Party Fun

Happy Friday - I'm a little behind on communication lately, but I am enjoying the weather and trying to find fun, creative ways to share with you all.

For some reason, the color yellow keeps popping up everywhere and although it's not normally a color I choose, I just couldn't resist, and I'm sure you'll see why...

Yellow, Blues and Greens Are the PERFECT combo for a summer event!

The yellow adds just the right amount of color!

Carrot, anyone?  Couldn't resist these cute bunnies!

And more bunnies!

So bright and cheerful - definitely can't go wrong with yellow in the summer!

Hope you all enjoyed my fun little shoot!  Any of your own ideas?  Please share!!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Bridesmaid Bliss

This past weekend, I had the priviledge of being in my brother's wedding.  The colors were mostly a variance of multiple shades of purples.  Although it was a ridiculously hot weekend (and this weekend it's absolutely freezing!!!), it was nice to actually be in a wedding and to see it from a completely different angle.  Any bridesmaid stories?  Feel free to share!  Thanks for reading and enjoy the new month - hard to believe we're already half-way through 2012!

My bouquet - still alive after almost a week!!
